Aspects: how your planets connect
Aspects are the angles between planets, the conversations happening across your chart. They're what turns a list of placements into a living portrait.
What an aspect is
An aspect is a meaningful angle between two planets, measured around the 360° wheel. When two planets sit at one of these special angles, their energies interact, sometimes blending, sometimes pulling against each other.
How close the angle is to exact is called the orb. A tighter orb means a stronger, more defining connection.
The five major aspects
There are five aspects most readings lean on. A conjunction (0°) fuses two planets so they act as one. A trine (120°) is easy, natural harmony, talent that flows. A sextile (60°) is gentle opportunity, there if you act on it. A square (90°) is productive friction that drives growth. An opposition (180°) is a tug-of-war between two needs, seeking balance.
None of these is simply "good" or "bad." Trines feel easy but can be taken for granted; squares feel hard but build real skill.
How it helps you
Aspects explain why a chart feels more than the sum of its parts. A confident Sun squared by a cautious Saturn describes an inner push-and-pull many people recognize instantly, the drive to shine meeting the urge to be careful.
Seeing your aspects can make self-understanding click: the tensions aren't flaws, they're the specific growth your chart is built around.
